What is a pulga?

What in the world is a pulga and why does someone do it? Okay my daughter was eating candy and daddy said she needs a pulga to clean out all the veechos. I was like what is that? He said it is something you drink, i guess like a laxative and supposedly you use the bathroom all day long and all the veechos and bad stuff or whatever comes out. What is this really? A colon cleanser?? I am not giving my daughter a colon cleanser at 4 years old, she already looks too skinny to me. So daddy says I am going to pulga baby edgar when he is 18 months old, I was like we are not colon cleansing a 1 year old, he said yeah we are. Well I told him we were not going to because I am scared he will dehydrate, he said everyone needs to do it. I said not being mean or funny, but maybe in Mexico they do it because it is different over there as far as food and water and stuff like that. I am going to make sure he knows not to do that to the baby because I am scared to do that he is still too little. (and will be too little until he is 10 or 11 or older!) I could imagine taking him to the hospital for dehydration and them looking at me like I am stupid and calling the police and child services thinking that I was trying to dehydrate my baby. I have never had a pulga and I am healthy. I think your body naturally gets rid of some things and then later on in life if you feel the need to pulga- have at it, but I am not doing it. If anyone has any helpful info please let me know.

  1. To answer your question, a "pulga" is a flea. But what you're thinking of is a "purga". It is a purgative. A "purga" can be anything from just eating pineapple all day to drinking a glass of strong "agua de jamaica". I personally, have never done this to my kids, but I have family members that swear by the stuff. I can't tell you what to do, but you and Daddy Edgar should talk about it, both with an open mind! :D

  3. So as Im reading this Im asking my husband what it is and hes like, its a flea I dont know what shes talking about. Then I get to Leslies comment and Im laughing so hard. Thanks Leslie for clearing things up for us gringas. Only a fellow gringa would be able to look at the whole picture and translate it that way. And Crystal I agree with Leslie that you all should discuss it and just bring up the dehydration part and look some stuff up on it. If the baby is pooping ok you shouldn't need it.

  4. Yeah, after I posted it I was asking someone here and they said no it's a puRga. Oops I feel crazy. I know on the internet it said that alot of veechos can enter the body through food that has not been cooked enough, water that is contaminated and some say being outside barefoot. He has not said anything about it, but if he is going to really think or insist that we need to do it I would like to talk to my pediatrician 1st because she knows better than we do. Good thing she speaks Spanish also! She is new we have not been to see her yet, but we will be seeing her soon. Thanks everyone for the information!
